Recreational Baseball

Ridge Baseball | Our Programs | Recreational Baseball

RBC's Spring Recreational Program is our largest program and is open to boys and girls ages 5 - 12 of all ability levels. Below is a summary of how RBC typically structures its Spring Recreational Baseball Leagues and a brief description of the philosophy of each league. The final determination of the make-up of any particular league (including what age groups play in it) is based on player registration and final consideration is provided once the registration period closes. This may also include the elimination of a league resulting in combining multiple age groups and creating fewer divisions to enhance player development and team camaraderie.

AMERICAN LEAGUE (Age 12 and 11) The American League is the most competitive division of RBC recreational baseball. All 12 year old players are automatically included in the AL division. 11 year old players and if the need arises, some 10 year old players may be invited for consideration to participate in the highly competitive American League (AL). The AL will be played on fields with 50' pitching distances and 70' base paths and involves 'true baseball' leading and stealing. The teams typically play Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

NATIONAL LEAGUE (Age 11 and 10) This is a competitive league for players with a strong focus on teaching and reinforcing baseball rules and skills on 'Little League' size fields. All 11 and 10 year olds not playing in the AL, and maybe some 9 year olds, will or may be invited for consideration to participate in the National League (NL) by attending the NL Evaluations. The teams typically play Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoon/evening.

MINOR LEAGUE (f/k/a Collegiate League) (Age 9 and 8) The Collegiate league is a semi-competitive league typically consisting of players age 8 and 9 which introduces baseball strategy and skills in a fun team oriented environment. The teams typically play Monday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoon. This is the first league in RBC where the coaches are not on the field and the game of baseball is played entirely by the children. While there are no Collegiate League evaluations, the teams are formed via a draft (using prior year coaches assessments) which will include most 8 year old players. The teams in the Collegiate League also participate in playoffs and Championship weekend, including the All-Star game and Skills Competition.

ROOKIE LEAGUE (Coach Pitch, Age 6 and 7) Players who are 6 and 7 years old will generally play in the Rookie League. The Rookie League is an instructional, non-competitive league for boys and girls and is “Coach" Pitch. The league typically plays one or two nights during the week on Tuesday and Thursday, and one game on Saturday. Coaches concentrate on teaching basic baseball rules and skills and a softer baseball is used for safety.

TEE BALL(Age 5) Open to players who will be 5 BEFORE April, 30 2024, this is an instructional, non-competitive league for boys and girls. Coaches concentrate on teaching basic baseball rules and skills. Tee Ball is typically played one night during the week on Monday and one game on Saturday morning. A soft baseball is used for safety.

2024 FALL REC REGISTRATION OPENS JULY 29TH

RBC's Fall Recreational Program is designed for boys and girls ages 6 - 12 who would like to continue learning and playing baseball during the Fall season.  Our Fall Rec program is smaller than our Spring Rec program and allows boys and girls to get more reps and experience on the baseball diamond.

Our Fall Rec season typically starts in early September and runs through the end of October, and possibly into early November.  Players typically play 10 - 12 games during the Fall season.

Depending on the number of participants, we typically divide the Fall Rec into 3 leagues:

Majors: Players aged 10-12 will typically play in the Majors. The Majors play on the 50-70 sized field and play "real" baseball, with leading, stealing, etc.  The Majors is similar to our American League Spring program.

Minors: Players aged 8-9 will typically play in the Minors.  The Minors plays on the 46-60 sized field and is a kid-pitch league.  The Minors is similar to our Collegiate and National League Spring programs.

Coach Pitch: Our youngest Fall league players aged 6-7 typically will play in the Coach Pitch League. This is an instructional league and is similar to our Minor and Rooking League Spring programs.  Note: we do not offer a Fall T-Ball program.
